Used in Pilates studios around the world, the Spine Corrector “Barrel” is intended to correct and restore the spine to its natural curve.

Designed by Joseph Pilates himself, the barrel opens the chest, strengthens the abdominal, back and shoulder muscles and helps maintain a supple, flexible and healthy spine.

With aging comes the loss of the natural curvature of the spine. A misshapen spine can lead to a variety of health issues. Consistent use of this barrel or other corrective device can reverse humpback and allow for deeper, more natural breathing.

The package includes a 20-minute video, unfortunately on VHS tape rather than DVD, featuring Pilates Instructor Romana Kryzanowska and Elite Pilates Trainer Marjolein Brugman demonstrating proper form for 14 different exercises.

The multi-function console features large, easy-to-read numbers and tracks time, speed, distance and calories with simple, one-button control. Heart rate is tracked with a fingertip pulse sensor built into the monitor.

The Stamina Air 1725 is easy to assemble, lightweight and includes wheels for portability. Over-sized pedals and foam padded handlebars contribute to a comfortable workout.

The 14 inch stride is easy on the joints, following the natural path of the foot, extension of the leg, and the rotation of the hip during walking or running. The foot pedals can be moved in a forward or reverse direction.

The elliptical mode blends stair climbing, cycling, skiing, and walking into a single exercise. In forward motion, quadriceps, buttocks, lower abdomen, hips, and thighs are targeted. Reverse motion works hamstrings, lower buttocks, hips, thighs, and calves.

The stepper mode works the same muscle groups with a vertical motion. Switching between modes is surprisingly quick and easy.

In either mode, foam padded dual-action handlebars add an upper-body workout to strengthen arms, chest, shoulders, and back. Both modes are low-impact and easy on the knees and ankles when compared to a treadmill.

The Stamina Viper VG1500 does not ship fully or partially assembled like many other home gyms. Assembly is complicated with many parts, nuts and bolts, but once completed it’s very sturdy and stable.

For bench press, chest fly, shoulder and arm exercises, the Viper VG1500 allows maximum resistance of up to 600 pounds. Separately, the high and low cable pulley stations handle up to 400 pounds for bicep curls, tricep presses, lat pulldowns, abdominal crunches and lower body work including leg extensions.

The comfortable seat adjusts to four heights in addition to four seatback positions. The dual grips provide a natural barbell feel for upper body work. The package includes a workout guide demonstrating exercises and a detailed manual.
