This is our first look at Sole, a company that has been producing high quality, inventive fitness equipment for over 20 years.

The Sole E55 Elliptical Trainer is a heavy, solid machine with a monster flywheel and long footprint. This won’t be the most portable part of your home gym so we suggest choosing an appropriate long-term spot before purchasing. After assembly it measures 82″ x 27″ x 68″.

Priced between the Sole E35 and E95 models the E55 features an uncommon gear ratio and top end resistance that allows for the most demanding of cardio workouts. The simple to use back-lit LCD console lets you choose between 16 resistance levels and 10 exercise programs. The 2009 Model includes a power incline feature, allowing adjustment of the elliptical motion to better target your leg muscles and intensify the aerobic benefits. Additional electronic features include a heart rate chest strap and grip pulse monitoring.

The actual workout experience is comparable to high-end models found at 24 Hour Fitness and other popular commercial gyms. Like all ellipticals the E55 creates a fluid motion simulating walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, while incorporating hand rails that help provide a full body workout. The motion is continuous and seamless providing a low-impact exercise that won’t aggravate sensitive joints or injuries as can occur when running or using a treadmill.

Sole went a step further by working with a physical therapist to design oversized foot pedals with an inward slope that helps simulate a true walking motion to further reduce stress on knees and ankles.

Assembly is an involved process but the parts are packaged very efficiently and the straight forward manual will guide you through each step.
