Flex Belt Abdominal Workout Review | Muscle Stimulation Toning Belt from Slendertone

After using the Flex Belt for one week, I’m pleased (and more than a little surprised) with the early results. I’m slim, but in need of some core strength and definition in the abdominal area. The Flex Belt is definitely working for me. I plan to write a more detailed account of my experience after using the system for 60 days.

Finding a shortcut to losing weight and getting fit is usually a futile exercise. Most electronic abdominal stimulation systems do very little to actually firm and strengthen the stomach muscles. The cheaper models (that will remain unnamed) simply do not work. The Flex Belt from Slendertone appears to be the exception — this is the first ab toning system to be cleared by the FDA. Not surprisingly, it’s also one of the most expensive.

So how does it work? The belt is held comfortably and securely in place with adjustable velcro fasteners. Three pre-positioned, medical-grade GelPads cover the central abdominal muscles and external obliques. Signals from the Ab Belt reach out to nerves where they are the most concentrated. These nerves branch out to reach all the abdominal muscles (not just those under the pads), causing them to relax and contract naturally, working all the muscles at the same time.

One downside to this system is that over time the electronic signal may weaken as the GelPads pick up skin debris and lose stickiness. Replacement pads can be purchased by phone or online.

The control unit lets you easily choose between 8 core and 2 bonus programs. Training intensity is manually adjusted from 0-150. The tingling sensation is unusual at first but not uncomfortable. I’m working my way up, currently using the 25 minute program at an intensity level of 55. More to come…
