Kurt Kinetic is the official bicycle trainer for the USA Cycling Team, producing indoor trainers that fall at the high end of the quality and price spectrum.

Indoor trainers securely attach to the rear end of an outdoor bike for cycling indoors. They are ideal for the rainy season, or when you just don’t feel like leaving the house.

The Kurt Kinetic Road Machine Indoor Trainer uses a sealed fluid chamber and magnetically coupled driveshaft for a smoother and more realistic ride. Powertap calibrated, the fluid trainer automatically adjusts resistance as you change speed. The experience simulates riding on the open road and provides a very good workout.

One drawback to a fluid trainer is that resistance fluid may begin to leak over time. Kurt Kinetic claims that this model is leak proof.

The Trakstand Fluid is the mid-level model of the three Blackburn Indoor Bicycle Trainers, priced between the Trakstand Mag and the top-end Trakstand Ultra.

This trainer comes fully assembled out of the box so you can mount your bike and be riding within 5 minutes. Setup involves setting the adjusting knob width to match the rear end bike width and then securing it into place with the locking rings. The mount is firm and secure and feels very stable while pedaling, even at high speed.

Resistance is smooth and progressive, providing the realistic feel of encountering varied terrain when cycling outdoors.

Although Blackburn users the word “silent” in their marketing verbiage, this trainer definitely produces a fair amount of noise — but no more than a regular upright or recumbent exercise bike.

As with all indoor trainers it’s important to properly inflate the tires to ensure optimal contact with the flywheel. This model is compatible with 700c, 650c, and 26-inch wheel sizes.

The Blackburn Trakstand Fluid is constructed with heavy CrMo steel and folds flat to about 6 inches for convenient storage.
