24 Hour Fitness today announced the release of “bodybugg mobile,” a mobile-enabled Web site that allows bodybugg owners to use their iPhone or iPod touch to log their daily food intake and monitor fitness progress while on the go. Subscribers can log in from their mobile device at my.apexfitness.com or bodybugg.com.

“Our members told us that they wanted the bodybugg system to go mobile and we listened,” said Bill Quinn, Senior Vice President, Merchandising. “After launching the My24 app a few months ago, we’re happy to extend our mobile tools to bodybugg users to give them another way to help them meet their goals.”

The bodybugg mobile Web site allows users to:

• Log in, view and edit meals from their iPhone or iPod touch
• View meals in their meal plans
• Access frequent foods, custom foods
• View information on calories burned, calorie burn targets and calorie balance
• View total calories logged for the day

The base unit uses an online system to track statistics for those who prefer to see progress only once per day. This monitor gives users minute-to-minute access to their data.

The GoWear fit Lifestyle and Calorie Management System is an armband with a small computer that  measures an array of physical characteristics, including motion, steps, galvanic skin response, skin temperature, and heat flux. It’s the only multi-sensor monitor that can accurately track calorie burn, physical activity, sleep duration and sleep efficiency.

This monitor easily syncs to the Gowear fit armband and can be worn as a watch or clipped onto a bag or clothing.

We’d like to see the manufacturer offer the monitor as an option with purchase of the base system. For now, users will need to purchase them separately at full price.

This multi-function fitness device differs from other performance monitors as it actually collects data coming off your body by measuring galvanic skin response, skin temperature, and heat flux. We like the idea of not being a slave to minute-by-minute readings and prefer the subscription option, checking stats just once per day. The online system is robust, graphical, includes a personalized web page and options to print or export your data to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The price is reasonable at 6.95/month for a 12 month commitment, 9.95/month for six months or 12.95 month-to-month. The first three months are free.
