The original Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar has become one of the best-selling home fitness accessories over the past few years. This upgraded Extreme Edition adds two additional grip positions — alternate wide and side grips — for a total of five.

Like the original Iron Gym, the Extreme Edition installs easily in most doorway frames without the need for screws, fasteners or tools of any kind. The sturdy steel frame mounts and removes quickly without wall or door damage that may be caused by permanent installation pull up bars. The black foam may leave a slight mark on white door frames, however.

The Power Pushup 2 was voted “Best New Piece of Exercise Equipment” by Men’s Health magazine a few years back. Since then, several new pushup devices have reached the market including the very popular rotational pushup stands, like the Perfect Pushup. Easy mount doorway pull-up bars represent one of the most innovative and popular fitness inventions in recent years. The simplicity and versatility of these new bars is remarkable. The Creative Fitness Door Gym is one of the earlier versions, often used with the P90X Extreme Training System, but actually came out before that program exploded in 2007.

This a sturdy, well constructed pull-up bar made of high quality material, but more expensive than the similarly designed and widely used Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar. If you’re purchasing a chin-up bar for P90X, be sure to compare with the Beachbody chin-up bar designed specifically for P90X. Both the Creative Door Gym and Iron Gym bars include a single horizontal crossbar, while the P90X version features two parallel bars for additional grip positions. The Creative Fitness Door Gym uses a cantilever design (a horizontal beam fixed at one end only) that hooks on the doorjam without the need for screws or brackets. Body weight pressure is redirected across the bars pressing horizontally on the door frame for a secure and safe mount. This bar supports user weights of up to 300 pounds. As with all the pull-up bars of this type, deep pushups and situps can be done by placing the bar on the ground.

The instructions for the Creative Fitness Door Gym are not very clear, but after one-time assembly, without the need for any tools, the bar can be mounted securely in a doorway in a few seconds. A quick upward motion removes the bar when not in use. Be sure your door trim is at least 3.5″ wide and the horizontal doorway space is between 24″ and 32″.

It should be noted that the material used in this product can leave minor divots or marks on the door frame paint. This can be minimized with controlled reps and by not swinging from the bar.

Harbinger 373500 Push Up Bars/Stands | Stationary Padded Handle Upper Body Workout

Here’s another entry in the ever-expanding field of push up devices and an inexpensive alternative to the popular infomercial brands.

The Harbinger Padded Push Up Bars adequately provide all the benefits of off-the-floor pushup products, but lack the rotating handle design featured in the Perfect Pushup and Pushup Pro.
A rotating handle lets your arms move fluidly and naturally as when using a dumbbell, engaging more muscles in the upper body.

While they do not rotate, the Harbinger handles do remove the wrist and hand stress usually associated with floor push ups. The grips on these bars are comfortable and wrapped with foam padding.

Another benefit of this design, or any raised push up bar, is the increased range of motion and ability to dip further while performing a push up.

The Harbingers don’t cost much, partially due to the all plastic construction, and look kind of cheap. The flip side of this is the extreme light weight, making them among the most portable of any fitness equipment that we would recommend.

The delta shaped base is attractive and space saving but we prefer a rounded base for added safety. Although the Harbingers can support up to 350 pounds on each bar, on rare occasions they can tip over if set too far apart or if your arms waver too much.
